Service Policy
Repair Estimates and Risks:
At Bayside Fix I.T., I prioritise transparency in both repairs and cost estimates, it's important to note that electronic repairs inherently come with certain risks
Electronic repairs are unpredictable due to the nature of electronic components and circuit boards. Over time, these components can deteriorate and exposure to catalysts such as excessive heat, dust buildup, or liquids can lead to premature component and board failure without warning. It’s crucial to note that during the repair process, there is a small risk that the electronic device may become unrepairable or non-functional, especially during disassembly or repair attempts. Although I take the utmost care and pay close attention to every detail, these risks still remain.
That being said please read below to understand the associated risks with repairs in general. Sorry, I don’t have a “crystal ball” when I offer a repair estimate, but I wish we had!
Cost Estimate:
I aim to provide a cost estimate based on the information and requirements provided by the customer. This estimate empower customers to make informed decisions about proceeding with the repair. However, it's important to recognize that the cost of a repair may escalate if additional damage is discovered during the repair process.
Customer Case History:
For example, imagine a customer requests a laptop battery replacement, believing the old battery is the cause of the laptop not powering on (often after researching online repair sites). As outlined in the cost estimate, I replace the battery; however, the laptop still won't power on, and the new battery tests fine. Upon further troubleshooting, it's discovered that previous liquid damage—likely from a sugar-based drink—has caused corrosion on the motherboard tracks and damaged components. Unforeseen issues like this can arise, and my policy is to promptly inform the customer and provide an updated cost estimate.
No additional repairs will proceed without the customer's email approval, which will include acknowledgment of any extra charges. While the original cost estimate remains valid within its scope, I will inform the customer if the repair is no longer cost-effective. Ultimately, the decision to repair or not repair rests entirely with the customer. I believe in transparency, ensuring customers have the information they need to make informed decisions—whether they choose to proceed with the repair or not.
Customer Responsibility:
If a customer sends an electronic device without requesting a cost estimate, it will be assumed that they expect a repair attempt to be made and accept all associated costs. Therefore, it is the customer's responsibility to request a repair estimate prior to shipping the device for repair.
Payment method:
I only accept bank transfers as payment. I will email you the payment details, as I believe this is a more secure option for both Bayside Fix I.T. and you, as a valued customer. Rest assured, I will never ask for or store your card details.
Initial Appraisal Fee:
A non-refundable appraisal/assessment fee applies to all devices submitted for repair. If the damage exceeds the original cost estimate or if the device is deemed beyond economical repair due to factors such as component costs, availability, or extended repair time, I will provide you with an updated estimate and revised timeline via email. The final decision to proceed will always be yours. This fee also applies if you choose not to proceed with the repair. The initial appraisal fee is $35.00 AUD, and postal charges will apply for returning the unrepaired device.
Repair Attempt Fee:
A repair attempt fee is charged for devices sent in for repair if the attempt is unsuccessful. This fee covers the time spent diagnosing and working on the device, as well as the cost of any components and consumables used during the process. The fee ranges from $39.00 to $120.00 AUD.
Repair warranty:
All repairs come with a 60-day warranty, starting from the date of payment. If the same issue reoccurs within 60 days of the initial repair, I will redo the repair at no charge, including all parts used. The new fault must be related to the original repair; if it’s not, you will be informed of any additional costs before proceeding.
I will assess the new issue to determine if it’s covered under the warranty. Refunds will only be issued if I am unable to fix your device, excluding the repair attempt fee and return shipping costs. The 60-day warranty will not be extended after a second repair.
Issues that arise during the 60-day warranty period but are unrelated to the original fault or repair will not be covered.
Warranty Exclusions
Bayside Fix I.T does not offer any guarantees or warranties, whether implied or explicit, for the following:
Issues not related to the original repair: Any new faults that arise within the 12-month warranty period that are not directly connected to the parts or labour provided in the original repair.
Software-related issues: Problems related to the operating system, software subsystems, applications, or issues occurring during or after virus/malware removal.
Hardware modifications: Any modifications or alterations made to the hardware during the 12-month warranty period. Such modifications will void the warranty.
Customer-supplied parts: Repairs completed using customer-provided parts may void the warranty (excluding components supplied directly by Bayside Fix I.T.).
Tampering or environmental damage: Any tampering with the repaired device, exposure to liquids, extreme temperatures (internal or external), physical damage, or mishandling. These conditions will void the warranty.
External device damage: Damage caused by connected devices resulting in electrical spikes, short circuits, or component failure.
Software installation issues: Installation of software, including malware, viruses, spyware, or otherwise harmful programs during the warranty period, will void the warranty.
Use of incorrect power equipment: Use of a non-original or incompatible manufacturer’s power pack or charger, which will void the warranty.
Manufacturer design flaws: Defects or failures resulting from inherent design flaws or manufacturer-related issues.
Wear, accidental, or improper use: Normal wear and tear, accidental damage, misuse, abuse, or any issues arising from improper installation, modification, or repair performed by the user or any third party are not covered by this warranty.
Refurbished components: If refurbished components are used due to new components being unavailable, the warranty period for those components is limited to six (6) months.
By submitting your device for repair, you acknowledge that this may void the manufacturer’s warranty, if applicable, and you accept full responsibility for any consequences. Bayside Fix I.T. will not be held liable for any issues arising from the voiding of the manufacturer’s warranty.
Additionally, Bayside Fix I.T. is not responsible for any damage that occurs during shipping, whether when sending the device to us or returning it after repair. It is your responsibility to ensure the device is properly insured and securely packaged to prevent shipping damage
Replacement Parts Procedure:
Some repairs may require parts to be ordered to complete the job. Before ordering any parts, I will contact you to inform you of the necessary components and provide an estimate of the associated costs. Please note that dispatch and shipping times from the supplier are beyond my control. While I will provide an estimated arrival time, I cannot guarantee parts will arrive within that timeframe. For all parts specifically ordered for your repair, a non-refundable 50% deposit will be required.
I do not recommend using customer-supplied parts, as I cannot verify their functionality or compatibility with your device. The Bayside Fix I.T. warranty does not cover any customer-supplied parts, except for those provided by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM).
By supplying parts, customers acknowledge that the repair will not be covered by the Bayside Fix I.T. 12 month warranty. Additionally, customers waive any liability for damages caused by faulty parts or component incompatibilities in the repaired device.
Shipping Policy:
When you're ready to send your device to us, please click the 'SEND IT' tab on the homepage and complete the form with your details. I will then provide you with a cost estimate.
For your protection, I strongly recommend fully insuring your device against shipping damage and loss. If you choose not to insure your device, you accept full responsibility for any damage or loss during shipment, and Bayside Fix I.T. will not be liable for any issues arising during transit.
To further protect your device, I suggest shipping it in its original packaging, placed inside a plain box to conceal its identity during transit. If you choose to ship the device in a generic box only, it will be returned to you in the same manner, at your own risk. While I will ensure that your device is properly packaged for protection, Bayside Fix I.T. cannot be held liable for any damage that may occur during shipping.
Data Stored:
Bayside Fix I.T. will take all reasonable care to protect the integrity of your data. However, I cannot guarantee the security or safety of your data during the repair process. I will not be held liable for any data loss that occurs during transit or as a result of the repair work performed.
I strongly recommend that you back up any valuable data to a reliable storage device before sending your device for repair. If requested, I can assist with backing up your data for an additional fee. However, due to the complexity of electronic devices, I cannot predict or guarantee the safety of your data during the repair process or while backing it up. As such, I accept no liability for any data loss or corruption that may occur.
Bayside Fix I.T. Device Retention and Abandonment Policy:
Bayside Fix I.T. will retain possession of your device for up to 60 days after the completion of the repair. If full payment for the repair is not received within 60 days, I will consider the device abandoned. This includes situations where there is no response to emails or the final notice requesting payment. After 60 days, Bayside Fix I.T. reserves the right to apply a Possessory Lien for the repair costs.
If you have contacted us and made full payment for the repair but requested that we store your device, a storage fee of $10 per month will apply after the initial 60 days. This storage offer is available for up to 12 months from the repair date. After 12 months, if the device is not collected, I will consider it abandoned and reserve the right to either sell, use it for parts, or recycle it.
This policy complies with Queensland’s Consumer Protection Laws and applicable Common Law, including the right to a Possessory Lien on property left for repair. Please note that storage charges and the process of selling or using the device will be handled in accordance with relevant legal requirements.
Bayside Fix I.T. reserves the right to amend this Service Policy at any time.
